 August 2006

Dear Villagers:

We think that congratulations are in order for our entire beach staff for a very smooth running operation this summer, perhaps the best ever in all of my years as Mayor, and I hope that you agree with my assessment.

Garbage wise, our new pickup provider, Winters Brothers, has been very impressive thus far in its efficiency and we are happy to have them aboard.

Interestingly, our tennis center was more successfully run this summer on a strictly open-time basis, as opposed to the usual membership club setup, which is food for thought as to the most effective way to manage our tennis courts in the future, no matter how we eventually choose to develop the entire tennis property.

And it appears to us that our repaving money has been well spent and that our strategy in connection with this continuing project has, thus far, resulted in an overall better look for most of our roadways, although it is still our goal to find a greater financial source so that we can get more of this work done.

Surely anyone touring the village during this past year cannot help being impressed by all of the beautiful new homes that have recently been built or are in the process of being constructed.  It certainly bodes well for the future of our community.

And for those of you that attended the August village meeting, I am certain that you were likewise impressed by the program put on by members of the management team at South Nassau Communities Hospital, and the words spoken by our own village resident, the eminent Dr. Paul Liu, the hospital’s chief of oncology.  The purpose of this presentation was to educate our residents to the fact that a new state-of-the-art facility is now as close by as Oceanside, and travel all the way to the north shore for top flight medical care is no longer necessary.

Hoping that you have all enjoyed the summer season, and wishing all the best to those of you about to celebrate the upcoming holidays, I am

                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                Stephen R. Mahler
