WARNING TO CAT OWNERS

Do you know if your cat travels across the Atlantic Beach/Silverpoint border?

If you live near Sun 'n Surf or Silverpoint properties, protect your cat by keeping him indoors.  An annual spring Trap, Remove and Destroy Program takes place on this property.  It is conducted on behalf of Nassau County for the Department of Environmental Conservation and Fish & Wildlife.  Stated purpose is to protect nesting areas of Piping Plovers. Trapping could occur anytime during the next month or so

ATLANTIC BEACH CATS

WORKING TO HUMANELY STABILIZE AND REDUCE THE VILLAGE’S

LARGE FREE-ROAMING CAT POPULATION

AFTER YEARS OF CAT COMPLAINTS, ABCats LAUNCHES PILOT

PROGRAM FOR NON-LETHAL MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL

THIS COMMUNITY-WIDE VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NEIGHBORHOOD CATS OF NYC, UTILIZING THE NON-LETHAL PROVEN METHOD OF  TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR).

CATS ARE TRAPPED, SPAYED OR NEUTERED, AND “EARTIPPED” BY PARTICIPATING VETS.   THEY ARE RETURNED TO THE SITE WHERE THEY HAVE LIVED FOR MANY YEARS AND ARE MONITORED BY CAREGIVERS.  IF NON-EARTIPPED CATS ARE OBSERVED AT THE SITE, THEY ALSO UNDERGO TNR.  FIRST THE POPULATION IS STABILIZED, AND THEN REDUCTION OCCURS THROUGH ATTRITION.

IN JUST A FEW WEEKS ABCats HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE THAN 100 CATS GOING THROUGH THE TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR) PROCESS. THIS ALREADY REPRESENTS

THE PREVENTION OF HUNDREDS OF KITTEN BIRTHS.
